During her 2 year residence at Ironmonger Row the good words spread about how she made womens skin feel and look, which lead to the creation of her brand Tia & Anda Brownsugarubme©, a delicious blend of sugar, salt, and various essential oils which she offers in addition to their steams and saunas.
Tia & Anda Brownsugarubme© body scrub has been created by Sandie using her simple philosophy – “if she wouldn’t use it on her skin then it certainly wont touch her clients skin”.

DEBRANNIES CATERING

Hanna Sintim set up Debrannies to provide all kinds of catering including for community events such as public meetings, tea dances for the over 50s and private parties. She has also started a Community Café at a local Church and runs the Coffee Shop at a health centre. She is a trained, qualified and experienced chef and has worked as Head Pastry Chef at Kensington Place, west London.

She started her journey to setting up her business with a course provided by the Portobello Business Centre. This was a four day course that took participants through all aspects of business with presentations from experts in tax and accounting. The business plan was the most useful thing for Hanna while starting off. Her Business Adviser, Maria Stammers, helped her by looking through her books and coming to observe her at work in her catering business. Hanna's
adviser gave her constructive feedback on how she could improve her business to make it more attractive to customers.

One area that is a struggle for her is finance. She says that she has had difficulty in identifying the benefits that she is entitled to as a self-employed person with her own business. What would have made a difference to her experience is being clear about what benefits are available to her and exactly what loan finance is available to support her business. She describes her position at the moment as 'being in a
grey area'.

For the future, Hanna has great plans for Debrannies including setting up a patisserie. She wants to further establish the business and to increase the number of catering contracts.

Hanna feels that the best thing about starting her own business is making her own decisions and being able to do what she likes to do. Although it is a struggle, it is a very exciting time for her.

What is Reiki?

The word Reiki, (pronounced ray-key) is Japanese. It is the make up of two words 'Rei' which means universal, in the sense of everywhere and also 'Ki' which means the same as prana or chi, i.e. the vital life force within everything alive. Reiki is also the descriptive name for the art of Natural Healing.

How can you experience Reiki Healing? Reiki is experienced whilst the client relaxes fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner lightly lays his/her hands on, engulfing the body front and back with pure Reiki energy - Reiki works on the whole body, inside and out.
Reiki addresses physical, mental, emotional and energetic imbalances. It also promotes overall well-being, healing and optimal good health.
We can all benefit from Reiki Healing; it is suitable for people of all ages and is helpful with a wide range of health related issues.
Reiki works well in conjunction with conventional treatments.

Gabriella Doran LicAc. MBAcC, acupuncture practitioner, is Neighbourhood Enterprise Centre's longest-term resident, having been at the centre since its inception in 2004.

What I love about my practice here at Neighbourhood Enterprise Centre, is that it is right in the heart of the wonderful diverse community of W9. Many of my patients travel much further to see me, but it is also important to me that I am serving my community making this profound system of medicine available to locals from all walks of life.

I practice a style of acupuncture known as Classical Five Element Acupuncture (CF-EA) which was pioneered in the West by the late master of this tradition, Professor J. R. Worsley. What is unique about it, is that it aims to determine the root cause of disease, illness or imbalance in each person, so treating what each individual needs to return them to good health, rather than having a particular formula for each symptom or condition. For example, many people suffer from migraines, but instead of having one formula for ‘migraines,’ there are many possible ways I can treat that condition, and all of them are determined by what the individual person that I am treating needs, so ten different migraine sufferers would receive ten completely different courses of treatment from me. This makes the treatment entirely focussed on the person, who in turn feels the benefit of their symptoms disappearing, as well as a greater sense of well-being.

I see symptoms as signs of deeper distress in a person. Everything is connected; we know this because we cannot go out to work and leave our backache at home. Often people will come to me with half a dozen problems, and ask if I can do anything about all of them or if the treatment will be geared towards one symptom only. I reply that even if I wanted to, I couldn’t help but to treat all of them as I’m treating their whole. It’s almost like giving the patient’s body a tool box to go and fix its problems with.

There are many reasons people seek help from me, from physical discomfort to emotional breakdown to being stuck and unable to move on with their lives. For some, my clinic is a last resort, as they have found medications have fallen short of really helping their condition, or simply that their over-worked GP doesn’t have the time to really listen and find out what is going on beyond the physical symptoms. I love my job because I know that I can really be there for every person who comes to see me and because of that, and of course the profound system of medicine that I practice, they get real improvement in their health and well-being.

If you have any questions about acupuncture please do send me an e-mail on Gabriella@5-element-acupuncture.co.uk or call me on 0781 314 1098.
